My first stop in Africa is Zanzibar. I have dreamed of coming hear for years, and it doesn't disappoint! I started on the southern part of the island in Jambiani. I was greeted with no electricity. I knew about the power outages, I just didn't realize they would be for such extended periods of time. Not the best way to start my trip, but I just went with it.

Local guys playing football on the beach each evening. It's low tide, otherwise that was underwater earlier in the day. Kids walking home from school. Local man from Maasai tribe trying to teach me Swahili. Then took me to the village to a pub. There was no real way to take pictures of the village. I didn't want to offend anyone. Needless to say, it wasn't upscale in the least. Everyone was very nice and welcoming though!

I then went up to Stone Town

Top picture on the right is the "bus". They call all the wires African spaghetti-lol!

This is a catholic church in stone town.

Next the Slave Museum and Monument of the Anglican church

They made me put on a sarong, I had on shorts- very strict Muslim country.

The slave museum at the Anglican Church- the major player in the slave trade. Some European woman was crying and carrying on. I couldn't understand what she was saying, but obviously she wasn't happy about seeing the atrocities carried out by her ancestors...my favorite photo is the bottom middle. A slave giving those men a piece of her mind-lol!

Slave monument. The hole is where they put the slaves, concrete rectangular thing was for water.

Taking a break at a coffee house in the middle of town.

Really enjoying the laidback vibe in Zanzibar! Next I'm heading north to Nungwi.

Look at how clear and beautiful the water is! My first night in Nungwi I had dinner on the Indian Ocean-delicious! The top are pictures from the hotel that I liked. Kids performing on the beach. Then in the evening, I did the sunset cruise with entertainment.

The next day I decided to relax on the beach-again! This time at Kendwa beach where I got a pedicure on the beach. So relaxing...

Thoroughly enjoyed my day of sun and relaxation. Then I moved to the east coast for a few days. Michamvi

Michamvi Beach. Yes that's The Rock restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 weeks in Zanzibar. Now to the mainland- Dar Es Salaam is my first stop.
