After Palawan, I flew east to Cebu. This is the first island that the Spanish colonized in the 1500s. It's also the old capital, as it is the oldest city in the Philippines. It is highly urbanized, and anything you need, you can find here. They have a large shopping/entertainment center in the IT area. All the shops, restaurants and movie theatres I'm familiar with. This is also the area a lot of expats live. I met someone from North Carolina my first day here. That being said, it's very congested—not as bad as Manila, but the traffic is horrendous!

I opted to take a day trip to Oslob on my first day. While it was a long day, it was definitely unforgettable. I got to swim with whale sharks! I only hate that I didn't have an underwater camera... but I got some pictures from the boat. They're HUGE! But gentle giants.

The whale shark right next to the boat.

Beautiful clear water perfect for snorkeling. We also went to Tumalog Falls.

Final stop was an abandoned church. Immaculate Conception and Cuartel.

While it was an extremely long day (16 hours—I was picked up at 3 a.m.!), it was such a good day. I would have never thought I would jump in the water with whales, but this journey is also about pushing myself and being more adventurous. I'm off to a good start! Next Stop: surfers paradise- Siargao Island.
