So after my trip to Uganda, that was much too short, I travelled to Kenya. I chose to start my stay in Mombasa on the Indian Ocean. Mombasa is the oldest city in Kenya. Unfortunately I was off to a rocky start. Apparently the hotel was overbooked, but the owner called and said he had another property and he would have the driver take me there. I RARELY arrive at night. The only times I have has been when flights are delayed or canceled- I have no control over that. I arrived at night here, and even then I knew something was wrong. This was NOT a safe area, nor a tourist area. It looked like an apartment building rented by the day/night. But I really didn't have much choice. It's not like here in the US where I could just go someplace else. First I didn't have a car and the Uber driver was telling me he could leave me there or take me back to the airport. I checked in for 1 night and got the drivers cell number and tried to make it through the long night. I think there was a prostitute next door and I could hear everything through the paper thin walls. ALL NIGHT LONG! But at least she was busy-making her coins! Needless to say, I didn't get any sleep, not that I would even take my shoes off in that flophouse. But there was WIFI and I was able to secure a room at a nice boutique hotel-brand new boutique hotel-yay! I was able to put the unfortunate start of my stay behind me and explore this beautiful city.
If you zoom in on the middle 2 pics on the right you can see a homeless man. He totally blends in.

And finishing the day at Fort Jesus Museum
A lot of history here. I enjoyed this tour a lot. But after all this walking, I was looking forward to going to the beach.
And with this, my week in Mombasa is over. Now to Nairobi!
